Sulfuric acid is a strong, highly corrosive mineral acid with the chemical formula H₂SO₄. It is a dense, colorless to slightly yellow viscous liquid that is odorless and soluble in water, with a highly exothermic reaction when mixed with water.
Sulfuric acid is a strong dehydrating agent and oxidizer, capable of causing severe burns on contact with skin and damage to respiratory tissues if inhaled. It must be handled with proper safety precautions, including the use of protective equipment.
Due to its reactivity and versatility, sulfuric acid plays a crucial role in industrial manufacturing, laboratory research, and chemical processing worldwide.
Sulhpuric Acid, which comes in 70% Purity and 98% Purity, and generally 98% is used in more industries.
It is one of the most important industrial chemicals and is used in a wide range of applications, including:
- Fertilizer production (e.g., phosphates)
- Petroleum refining
- Battery acid in lead-acid batteries
- Chemical synthesis (e.g., dyes, explosives, pharmaceuticals)
- Metal processing (e.g., pickling steel)
Packaging and Storage
We can supply Sulfuric Acid in 40 kg carboy packs and can ship a 20-foot container containing approximately 22.5 MT of Sulfuric Acid.
Storage:
- Store in tightly closed containers made of compatible materials such as stainless steel or specially lined carbon steel.
- Keep in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and incompatible substances (e.g., organic materials, strong bases, water).
- Use secondary containment to prevent accidental release.
- Label containers clearly and ensure corrosion-resistant spill containment systems are in place.
Handling:
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE): acid-resistant gloves, chemical splash goggles or face shield, acid-resistant apron, and respiratory protection if vapors are present.
- Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes; never inhale fumes.
- When diluting, always add acid to water, never the reverse, due to the exothermic reaction.
- Use corrosion-resistant tools and pumps.
