Hydrochloric acid is a strong, corrosive mineral acid with the chemical formula HCl. It is a clear, colorless to slightly yellow solution of hydrogen chloride gas in water, with a sharp, pungent odor. It is highly soluble in water and forms a strong acidic solution.
HCl is a strong acid that is highly corrosive to skin, eyes, and mucous membranes, and its fumes can irritate the respiratory system. Proper safety measures, such as using gloves and goggles and working in well-ventilated areas, are essential.
Hydrochloric acid is a key chemical in laboratory work, industrial processes, and water treatment, making it an important and versatile acid in both commercial and scientific applications.
Hydrochloric acid is widely used across various industries, including:
- Metal cleaning and pickling
- pH control and neutralization
- Food processing (e.g., gelatin production)
- Production of inorganic and organic compounds
- Household cleaning products (in diluted form)
Packaging and Storage
We can supply Hydrochloric Acid in 35 kg carboy packs and can ship a 20-foot container containing approximately 24.5 MT of Hydrochloric Acid.
- Storage:
- Store in tightly sealed containers made of compatible materials such as PVC, polyethylene, or glass-lined steel.
- Keep in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from heat sources, metals, oxidizers, and bases.
- Use secondary containment and appropriate corrosion-resistant tanks and piping.
- Ensure that storage areas have proper ventilation to control vapor buildup.
- Handling:
- Use PPE including chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles or face shield, and acid-resistant clothing.
- Avoid inhalation of fumes and contact with skin or eyes.
- Handle only with proper training and in fume hoods or ventilated areas.
- Be cautious during transfer; use appropriate chemical-resistant pumps or dispensers.
